Clarita’s Mix, a cereal mill owned by a farmers’ cooperative is in the San Marcos area about 45 minutes outside of Cajamarca, Peru. The original co-op was started years earlier by Caritas (an international NGO) to mill, package and sell barley, wheat and quinoa cereals. Once TechnoServe Peru began assisting Clarita’s Mix in 2007, business grew significantly. Janet, the Production Manager, hosted the Walleighs’ tour in May 2008 to demonstrate the new factory’s improved grain processing. Clarita’s Mix had already attracted new customers who required more products that in turn enabled this cooperative to expand its benefits to the farmer-producers and surrounding communities.
