In September 2013, Rick and his friend Jim spent 5 ½ days hiking 58 miles from North Lake to South Lake on the eastern side of the Sierras.  This well-known route is considered by many backpackers to be one of the most beautiful hikes in California.  About half of this trip is along the John Muir Trail, and it passes through Dusy Basin, Le Conte Canyon and Evolution Valley, Rick’s favorite for magnificent scenery.  The trail also goes over Muir Pass at about 12,000 feet where Rick and Jim encountered heavy rain, which froze on their tents overnight.  Although the trip was strenuous, the fantastic panoramas of lakes, streams, peaks and valleys made it all worthwhile.

This stunning scenery is something that 99.99% of the population will likely never see on their own, so enjoy vicariously!
