After leaving Stirling, we took Rick Steves’ advice to visit Inverary Castle, where the Downton Abbey folks visited “Duneagle”  which is quite lovely, built by an early Duke of Argyll.  Next, the self-guided tour of the Inverary Jail–old built in the 1600s & new in the 1700s–displayed well-researched history and  insights into its conditions, the Warden and Matron’s jobs, and definitely the inmates’ experiences. Then off we headed to Oban where we experienced our 1st whisky tour and tasting and on to The Manor House overlooking the ocean, which was our home for the next 2 nights. See our Travelog for more details.
