DIANA'S PLAYGROUP
BEGAT THE EXTENDED PLAYGROUP FAMILIES WHO JOINED WITH BOOK CLUB, ETC.
When Diana was about 1.5 years old, she and
Wendy joined a playgroup which had 3 British and 3 American families, some of
whom
were part of a local "Newcomers" club which also had started a book club.
The Walleighs joined these people from across the
U.S. and the British Commonwealth to celebrate holidays, camp in Calif.,
cut Christmas trees in the Santa Cruz Mountains,
and many other fun activities. We've stayed friends with many of them for
almost 30 years so they are now definitely part of our family.
Some of these experiences are below.

JULY
4, 2009 AT WILDWOOD LAKE IN THE SIERRA FOOTHILLS |

Barbara, Harry and we were hosted
by Brian (Above Far L) and Chris (Above L) at their lovely home in
the Sierra Foothills. We spent lots of
time in their "Fifth Lady" boat (Above C) and in the lake just
bobbing (Above R) and chatting (WW & Barbara on Far R) in the cool
water. |

(Above Far L) Of course lots of
time was also dedicated to serious eating and (Above L) napping, as
demonstrated by Rick and Harry.
We also took a group hike (Above C) along the Yuba River, with the 3
women (Above R) stopping to appreciate the covered bridge.
Why was this covered bridge not in Vermont or New Hampshire???
Another key weekend activity was viewing Grass Valley, CA's
hometown Independence Day parade with classic Americana displays of
an old fire engine (Above Far R), local wacky marching
bands (Below Far L) and their leader (Below L), among many other
folksy groups. And the day's capstone was fireworks over the
lake.
(Below C) We were a bit nervous pulling up to the dock when the
fireworks were being loaded, especially by the sketchy men who
were smoking! However, Barbara captured not only captured all
our good times, but also great pictures
of the fireworks (Below R & Far R). |
