Turkey & Greece’s Artwork: Beauty Everywhere

in Greece, Turkey

One of Wendy’s favorite aspects of the trip to Turkey and Greece in October 2010 was the artwork—fine arts to folk arts to utilitarian and crafts.  There were such lovely details all the places she visited, in many different media: Iznik tiled walls or ceramics, carved stone, painted domed ceilings and arches, street signs, floor and wall mosaics, frescoes, and reconstructed building foundations.  Some were from the Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque and Aya Sophia.  Some were found in the rubble of ruins in both Turkey and Greece, and some in ordinary daily life in each country. Please enjoy these discoveries from 3,000 B.C.E. to 300 years ago to modern times!
