Amazing African Adventures of Two Families

Though there were 1,000s of pictures from 10 digital cameras clicking for 2 weeks, we hope we are displaying the best of the best
from Rick, Wendy, Adrian, Diana and Nathan.   We traveled across Kenya and Uganda with Mary Jo, Bill, Jenny, Michelle, and Chris
(who had a video camera) seeing the most complete range of animals on any of our trips, bar none!
Experiencing these adventures with good friends and family who were on their 1st trip to Africa made it even more special.
You can drive to Lewa, visit The Mara, fly in a charter plane, chuckle with chimps, gawp at gorillas and pygmies, then play with giraffes and elephants.

"Smile, you're in Kenya"
greets everyone at
Nairobi's Jomo
Kenyatta Airport in !
The exclusive hotel
Chez Walleigh
(aka our apt.)
Diana, Nathan, Rick & Wendy
waiting at Chez Walleigh
for our safari driver.
Nathan captures our
spirit on the 1st leg
of the trip--to have lunch
with our friends.
10 of us break bread at
the Holiday Inn, Nairobi
before we head north
to see the animals.

Lewa Conservancy is a
private reserve that's
a 5 hour drive
north of Nairobi.
The Mara's many
animals calmly share
their home with tourists.
The Masai tribe
owns almost 1/3 of
Kenya's land and
still live traditionally.

We visited our close
cousins, the chimps,
on Ngamba Island
off Entebbe, Uganda.
We walked for miles
in torrential rains to
visit Bwindi village, next
to Bwindi Impenetrable
Forest, Uganda.
But we really had
flown to Bwindi to
trek through the
rain forest to see the
Mountain Gorillas.

Several legs of the trip
were flown in very
small planes
Very exciting!
Once back in Nairobi, we
visited Langata Giraffe
Centre to feed our
blue-tongued friends.
Of course we had to
play with our adopted
elephants at the
Sheldrick Orphanage.

WE ONLY TOOK THE  FEW PICTURES BELOW DURING OUR OVERNIGHT AT THE ARK HOTEL IN ABERDARE NATIONAL PARK.

(Above) The Aberdare
Country Club was a
brief stop where we're
picked up by the bus
to go to The Ark Hotel.
(Above) On the 45 minute
bus ride to The Ark Hotel,
we were astounded to
see a leopard walking.
on the main road!
(Above)  The leopard
stopped along the road
to do its "business"
while ignoring our
busload of tourists.

(L) Near The Ark we
had to make way for
elephants, too.  We only
saw a few animals
from The Ark's "deck"
but we were treated
(R) to the rare
Giant Forest Hog.
